Dessange hair-styling salon opens up in town
Jacques Dessange, one of the world's leading hair-stylists, has opened his first salon in Hong Kong.
His team is a combination of French and local professionals, with the local stylists undergoing a period of intensive training to learn the Dessange technique.
'Hong Kong people are fashion conscious and the women care a great deal about their hair and skin. They spend a lot of time and money on their appearance,' salon manager Severine Hattu said.
The salon opened three weeks ago in Wyndham Street, Central, 40 years after Dessange opened his first salon on Paris's Champs Elysees.
It proved an immediate success, attracting stars and celebrities.
Jane Fonda, Kim Novak and Brigitte Bardot were all Dessange clients. Top French designers Christian Dior, Jacques Fath and Balenciaga, sought his services to work with their models.
Today, Dessange also has many faithful male clients, including Johnny Depp, Hugh Grant and Andy Garcia.
But, according to Ms Hattu, everybody who goes to a Jacques Dessange salon is treated like a star.
'We pride ourselves on the welcome we give to a client and the personal attention that each client receives,' she said.
Customers who book for hair-styling, or opt for the full beauty treatment, which includes manicure and make-up, can stay as long as they want.
The average cost of a visit to the salon for the full hair and beauty treatment is about $1,000 a cut, and a blow-dry starts at $550.
The hair-cutting technique perfected by Dessange and taught in his training schools in Paris, Brussels, Turin, Tokyo, Osaka and New York is applied in each of the 550 franchised salons spread around the world. .
